Hunter Huntsman

Specific Need

As a new fund for the community of Hunter, our 2026 goal is to build the basic fund amount as quickly as possible, in order to produce funds to grant for community improvements and projects in 2027.

Mission

The primary purpose of this fund is to support the community of Hunter, Kansas. The Solomon Valley Community Foundation shall distribute grants recommended by a local HHF advisory committee to support the Hunter Community including but not limited to infrastructure improvement, economic projects, educational programs, preservation of local historical heritage, or other community initiatives that could enhance the quality of life for residents of this area.  It is hoped this fund will be a lasting useful resource for Hunter community residents. It is also intended to set an example, encouraging others to give back and to invest in the future of our community and region

The initial organizing group chose to establish the Hunter Huntsman fund at the Solomon Valley Community Foundation because of their belief in the power of local philanthropy and the impact it could have on the Hunter Community and its surrounding area. By partnering with the Solomon Valley Community Foundation, it is ensured that donations received are managed responsibly and that the fund will continue to support the Hunter community and its surrounding region for generations to come. The SVCF’s expertise and commitment to strengthening Mitchell County make it the perfect home for the Hunter Huntsman fund.

Profile

The founding donation for the Hunter Huntsman Fund was established in memory of Larry Cheney, to honor the community where he grew up and graduated from Hunter High School in 1965. After serving in the U.S. Navy, he returned to serve Hunter in many ways: as a member of the city council, mayor, commander of American Legion Post 77, and a volunteer fireman. It is hoped that as this fund grows it will help current and future generations to enjoy their lives in the Hunter community as much as Larry did.
